City’s Roundabouts Saved by the SFHS SamaritansMay 14, 2018
Siddhant Sapra and Abhay Mohan of Class 11, Strawberry Fields High School have initiated a drive to prevent the demolition of roundabouts in the city of Chandigarh. The City Beautiful – Chandigarh has been known for its long stretches of tree-lined roads with the meticulously manicured lawns and roundabouts. With increase in traffic in the past few years, the Administration began replacing roundabouts in the city with traffic lights. These two young samaritans took it upon themselves to conduct intensive research on the problem and found that the decision of the Administration was counter-productive, as roundabouts aid the easy flow of traffic better than traffic lights do. They produced their research in the form of a letter to the Administration, which was also published in a newspaper article. They were invited by the Chief Inspector of the South-East Region of Chandigarh to present their views to him. Eventually, the Administration, after having taken their findings into consideration, decided to stop the demolition of all roundabouts in the city. We are proud of our young teenagers who relentlessly worked on the cause to save the City of not only eye sores like traffic lights and jams, but also spread awareness of maintaining the serenity and greenery of the roundabouts in the city of Chandigarh.
