42nd Sangeet Sammelan concludes at SFHS

November 4, 2019

Melodious ragas and soulful renditions reverberated through the corridors and seeped into every brick in the walls, as the Durga Das Foundation, in association with the Indian National Theatre, hosted the 42nd Sangeet Sammelan, at the Newton Hall at Strawberry Fields High School. The annual three-day musical extravaganza, which brought to the tri-city, esteemed and world renowned artistes, was held for the second consecutive year, from Friday, November 1 to Sunday, November 3, 2019, and was a veritable treat for music aficionados.

A stellar array of Hindustani Classical vocalists including Sawani Mudgal, Ravindra Parachure and Raghunandan Panshikar swept the audience into a trance like state, which made time stand still. The sole instrumentalist during the Sammelan was Chandrima Majumdar, who holds the distinction of being one of very few female sarod artists. On Day 3, the recital by Shalmalee Joshi was exceptionally soul stirring and the richness of her voice and repertoire, brought the event to a befitting conclusion.
