Varsha Ritu Sangeet Sammelan

August 3, 2019

The welcome pitter-patter of the rain was made more melodious by the soulful rendition of Raag Malhar in its various forms during a musical performance in the Newton Hall at Strawberry Fields High School. Legend says that this raag has the power to bring down the rains in the area where it is sung.
The Varsha Ritu Sangeet Sammelan, presented by the Indian National Theatre in association with the Durga Das Foundation, featured two acclaimed vocalists, Dr. Aditya Sharma of the Gwalior gharana followed by Smt. Jui Dhaygude-Pande of the Jaipur Atroli gharana. They were accompanied on harmonium by Shri Vinay Sharma and on tabla by Shri Avirbhuj and Shri Mehmood, all of who are seasoned artists in their own right.
The artists were appreciated for their masterful renditions, variety of taan patterns, and perfect balance between the structural beauty of the raag and its emotional content, and were felicitated by General V.P. Malik, former Chief of Army Staff and Trustee of the Foundation, and by Dr. Yash Pal Sharma, former Dean, Faculty of Arts & Culture Professor and Head of the Department of Music Punjabi University, Patiala.
