Music Collaborative Activity – Hindi French Music Reflection

The IBDP year 2 students participated in a Hindi and French collaborative session based on the theme of human ingenuity subtopic entertainment. Students heard the famous love and peace Jugalabandi between Hari Prasad Chaurasia and Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma among other fusion songs. They discussed their thoughts about the connection music makes with people and developing feelings with musical tones. Students researched about the history of music and musical instruments in India and France and presented it. Following this, Mr David Lal and Mr Hazra presented a beautiful jugalabandi, while also sharing more information about popular fusion music.

The purpose of the activity was to connect the students to their roots through music and champion the morals of their own culture. They should embody cultural values as they play a significant role in shaping our future.

The students gained perspective about the Indian and French music history, the evolution of musical instruments, how different musical instruments originate from different regions, but remain united in their purpose of arousing emotion. With the educators sharing the passion of ancient musicians who used animal bones and skins to make innovative instruments, students learned about the evolving landscape of music in India.
