April 8, 2020 Durga Das Foundation donates Rs 10 lacs to PM Cares Fund to fight Covid-19 The Durga Das Foundation has donated Rs 10 lakh to the PM Cares Fund to fight COVID-19. The cheque was handed over to the Governor Punjab and Administrator UT, VP Singh Badnore This includes the Foundation’s contribution to which one day’s salary of all teachers and management of its Strawberry Fields Schools has been added. According to Atul Khanna, Director of the Foundation, “this is a voluntary effort which expresses solidarity to the cause, especially to strengthen efforts to feed the marginalised and to protect the salaries of daily wage workers.” Meanwhile, the Foundation is ensuring that salaries of its 400 staff members which includes teachers, office staff and support staff in the form of bhaiyas and didis who are drawn from the lesser privileged backgrounds, are all paid on time. Every employee is being reassured that they are not alone and that together they will all tide over this dark period of uncertainty and impending gloom. At a time when people are gripped with fear and uncertainty, hearing news of many who are stranded, losing jobs and unsure where their next meal is going to come from, these actions, hopefully give succor. The decision to contribute one day’s salary was a token gesture initiated by the teachers who wanted to be part of a larger collective initiative and one which demonstrated how tiny ripples could turn into waves. February 6, 2020 Cryptic IT Quiz

Cryptic – A Computer Science quiz for high school was a student-led initiative. It was spear-headed, conceptualized and hosted by the team of Arhaan Aggarwal, Dhruv Bhardwaj and Savya Gulati, students of class XI. The quiz involved multifarious questions ranging from cryptocurrency to software and some general awareness questions. The audience was well engaged with many questions being thrown open to them. The entire event was a huge success and was applauded by one and all.

January 27, 2020 Republic Day Celebration Assembly

Republic Day, a day that commemorates the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect, was celebrated with immense patriotic fervour and sentiment at the Junior Wing.

The students marked the 71st Republic Day by way of a special assembly. The event commenced with the students singing in unison; the melodious lyrics of the song that had brought our entire country together, ‘Sare Jahan Se Accha, Hindustan Hamara’ filled the air and perfectly encapsulated the feeling of patriotism. To pay tribute to all the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country, the students sang many other soul-stirring patriotic songs such as,‘Taqat Watan ki Hum Se Hai’, ‘Nayi Dagar Naya Safar’, ‘Kyon Na Hum Sab Milkar’. The young learners also recited a beautiful poem ‘Gantantra Diwas Phir Aaya Hai’ replete with enthusiasm. The assembly concluded with a medley of patriotic songs followed by the National Anthem.

January 25, 2020 IBDP Theory of Knowledge Enhancement Session and Subject Specific Psychology Workshop

The experienced consultant Ms. Chrisann Almeida from Course Leap Education, Mumbai conducted the IBDP TOK (Core: Theory of Knowledge) and subject specific Psychology workshops on January 24 and 25, 2020 respectively.

The TOK workshop was conducted exclusively for the students from IBDP Y1 and Y2. The session was focused on understanding and applying the criteria in TOK presentation, formatting TOK presentation and knowledge question, how to link it to real life situation (RLS), application of knowledge question in various areas of knowledge (AOK), analyzing multiple perspectives and creating presentation outline. The students were actively involved in the various discussions with the primary purpose of enhancing critical thinking skills and reasoned evaluation.

The Psychology workshop focused entirely on internal and external assessments with one to one sessions with the students of IBDP Y2. Inputs on their internal assessments were given and discussed in details. The subject session was also conducted for the educators on scheme of works, unit plans and subject specific assessments.

The workshops were the extension to the sessions held in October. Both the workshop sessions were effectively engaging the students through various interesting tasks and activities.

January 23, 2020 IBDP Mathematics Session The expert consultant from Course leap Education Mumbai conducted the IBDP Mathematics Session on January 22, Wednesday. The students along with their mentor briefly overviewed the sample questions and topics covered in the revision classes. The session was the extension to the Mathematics Exploration Session conducted on November 18, Monday. The previous session was focused on the progress in the Internal/External assessments and Extended Essays. Overall the students are benefitted immensely from these sessions. Read More

January 22, 2020 Vaagmita – Annual Literary Inter House Competition The Hindi Department put up the much awaited Annual Literary Inter House Competition, 'Vaagmita' on the 21st of January 2020. The Newton Hall was packed to capacity as students and parents waited for the event to begin. Different literary genres like Poetry, Biographies and Short Stories were performed by students of Grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 respectively. It was a morning of unbridled enthusiasm as the orators took us on a roller coaster of emotions ranging from laughter to profound sadness and reflection.A special mention must be made of all the participants who did such a stupendous job and delivered their lines with such clarity and conviction. Certificates were handed out by the esteemed judges, all proficient educators of Hindi, as the event came to a close. We can't wait to see what the next edition of Vaagmita will be like! Read More

January 21, 2020 Pariksha pe Charcha Pariksha pe Charcha

Date: 20th January 2020Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi interacted with around 2000 students at Talkatora stadium, New Delhi today at “Pariksha PeCharcha 2020”. The programme is a unique initiative to ensure that students take exams without too much anxiety, to ensure better results in the long run. The event was streamed live in school and was viewed by the students.To begin with, the PM elaborated on the importance of extracurricular activities. He urged parents to allow their wards to explore different hobbies and interests. He stated that unless children partake in such activities, they will eventually “turn into robots”.Further he voiced his opinion on the use of technology by students; saying that while it does have a plethora of benefits, it inevitably becomes too addictive and time consuming.When asked about dealing with parental pressure relating to academics he replied, in jest, that he felt that the students were using him to convey a message to their parents which they themselves were unable to. Later, he advised parents not to push their children or pressurize them with respect to their academics. He also commented on how pleased he was that the students felt comfortable enough to seek his counsel on such subjects.Shri Narendra Modi concluded the fruitful session by encouraging students to be confident about their own preparation and to have faith in themselves.

January 21, 2020 Substance Abuse – Session by Dr Ruby Ahuja

A relevant and pertinent session regarding Substance Abuse was held by Dr. Ruby Ahuja, a psychologist of repute on 17 January, 2020. Dr. Ahuja has more than 18 years of experience in the field of Clinical Psychology and has been providing counseling services to various multinational companies across the country. Over the years she has conducted various workshops related to stress management and behavioral health. She is registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India and a certified CBT trainer, NLP practitioner and a member of various National and International Journals.Dr. Ruby gave an eloquent insight on substance abuse and its various impacts on the human brain, to students of grades 9 and 11. The session was quite an eye-opener for both the students and the educators. Through her interaction with students she made clear that there is no substitute to good health and children must learn to say no and not resort to any kind of peer pressure for substance use.The students interacted freely and cleared their doubts on various issues pertaining to addictions and use of drugs.
