Sur Sandhya and a Rainy Day

Against the backdrop of thunder, lightning and pouring rain, students of Hindustani classical music held their own, as their melodious voices rose to a subliminal crescendo!

They sang an impressive and wide repertoire which began with a thumri in Raag Yaman and included a beautiful and soulful rendition of dohas of the saint, Kabir ji. A solo performance, the evergreen bandish, “Aaj jaane ki zidd na karo”, stirred nostalgia, as did Salil Chaudhary’s “Kahin dur jab din dhal jaaye”.

A new and hugely successful fusion of sufi and classical Indian music, was presented with the use of western and traditional Indian musical instruments. All in all the musical evening struck a uniquely melodic chord with the audience.
