The first edition of “Vagdhara”, the much awaited Inter School Literary Recitation and Public Speaking Competition organized by the Hindi Department took place on 16th May 2023. Students from eight different schools across the tricity put up a spectacular show. Literary genres like ‘Laghu Katha’, ‘Hasya Kavita’, and ‘Prasiddh Bhashan’ were delved into.

It was an engaging event that left the audience questioning and pondering over the powerful points put across in all the speeches. This platform truly served as a place where students were able to freely voice their opinions and express their views in the form of beautiful literary pieces. The conviction with which the pieces were spoken and delivered was heartwarming. The awards were then announced by the prestigious judges comprising of Ms. Rita Srivastava, Mrs. Sushila Arora and Mrs. Rakhi Kapila.

In ‘Laghu Katha’ Mehreen Kaur of YPS Mohali secured the1st position, Archi Agnihotri of Saupin’s School & Somya of Aurbindo School secured the second position, Amee of St. Xavier’s School earned the third position. In ‘Hasya Kavita’ Anahita Singh of YPS Mohali & Himaksh of St. Xavier’s School secured the 1st position, Mannat Ladhi of St. Stephen’s School earned the second position and Rashi Garg of Saupin’s School secured the third position. In ‘Prasiddh Bhashan’ Daksh Vedh Arya of St. Xavier School & Lavya Akhilesh of St. John’s High School shared the 1st position, Atulya Malhotra of St. Stephen’s School secured the second position and Guntass Kaur of YPS Mohali secured the third position.

It would be pertinent to mention here that the home team’s performance was noteworthy, however in keeping with the school’s policy, no awards were granted to them.

The event was extremely well organised and symbolised the unity of the student body which was successful in holding this flawless event.

All the presenters and participants did a brilliant job, delivering their lines with clarity and conviction.

Some words plucked at our heart strings; some brought a lump to the throat while others made us laugh at life’s absurdities. And through it all the one common thread was the exploration of Hindi in its most distilled form, which had the listeners yearning for more.
