GREEN DIWALI CAMPAIGN – RANGOLI MAKING COMPETITION

October 20, 2022

Rangoli is a traditional hand drawing art, originating in the Indian subcontinent, in which patterns are created on the floor using materials such as powdered rice flour, coloured sand, diyas, flower petals and red ochre. The purpose of rangoli is decoration, and it is thought to bring good luck as well.

With each successive year, more emphasis is placed on celebrating a ‘Green Diwali’ and we of the Ecological Club at SFHS took this as an opportunity to renew our pledge to safeguard the environment. A Rangoli Making Competition was organised for the same as a part of a larger Green Diwali campaign.

Students were encouraged to utilise biodegradable and environmentally friendly materials to create their artwork and bring out environmental themes through them. Collaboration, creativity, and enthusiasm were on full display as the 30 participating teams put together some truly magnificent pieces of art and a special message was successfully conveyed: celebrating a Green Diwali is imperative to save the environment.
