Session with Peedu’s People for High School Students

October 22, 2022

Peedu’s People, an international non-profit organisation dealing with reduction of human – animal conflict, held an interactive, information session in the Newton Hall of the school on 19 October.

The session was led by Mr Inder Sandhu. It focused on animal welfare, and he mentioned myriads of topics within the domain, ranging from veganism to anti-speciesism.

Mr Inder Sandhu used the session to highlight a social dilemma – ‘what distinction do we make when deciding between which members of the animal world qualify as pets and which can be served to us as poultry’. Furthermore, by emphasising the cruel ongoing industrial practices used in the culling of these animals, via graphic representations, he was able to touch a chord in the young audience.

The session culminated in a meeting with Elvis, a stray dog cared for by The Peedu’s People. Mr Sandhu, in his handling of Elvis, showed safe and practical procedures to introduce ourselves to stray animals without intimidating them. Lastly, students were given the opportunity to interact with Elvis, inspiring an element of compassion within the hearts of those present.
