75th Independence Day Celebrations at Strawberry Fields High School

August 15, 2022

The cloudy sky and humid morning did in no way dampen the spirits at Strawberry Fields this morning when the High School students assembled to pay homage to the tri-colour as this was unfurled by Mr Atul Khanna, the Director of the School. As a shower of rose petals landed on the student community, gathered below, a rousing rendition of the National Anthem rent the air. The atmosphere, charged with patriotic fervour was given added impetus by the efforts of the school choir, in the Newton Hall.

The school choir, through the rendering of soulful and stirring patriotic songs, was able to touch a chord in every viewer’s heart. ‘Delhi Chalein’, ‘Sarfaroshi ki tamanna, ab hamare dil mein hai’ were songs that had the audience singing along.

Specially constituted commendations were announced by Mr Khanna and the recipients were given a medal and a certificate of appreciation by him. The recipients for the day were led by – the School Principal, Ms Sangeeta Sekhon, who received a standing ovation, followed by Mr Anil Rampal, Senior Administrative Officer. Also felicitated were our School staff — Jai Prakash, Rita, Jangraj and Ankush.

Today is a red letter day for the school for yet another reason – our students, Aarush Khanna and Rushil Khanna have brought laurels to the school for their entrepreneurial skills and commitment to the community. The leaning towards public service of this far-sighted duo was honoured by the Chandigarh Administration. In a grand ceremony, they were the youngest citizens of the UT to be awarded a trophy and a certificate of commendation by Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Honourable Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, in recognition of their transformative contribution to the local economy and the environment through their social enterprise, House of Udyog. Their enterprise uses recycled material of Global Recycled Standards and employs more than 25 rural artisans to create fashionable pret wear. They are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, 1, 8 and 12. A great feat indeed!

The morning concluded with the distribution of neatly boxed ‘laddoos’ for everyone. All in all, a grandiose day at Strawberry Fields!
