August 30, 2021 TOK Collaborative Session Theory of Knowledge is one of the core subjects of the IB Diploma Program which aims to develop students’ critical thinking. In order to enhance students' learning, the TOK collaborative session was organised on 28th August, Saturday from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm in collaboration with Citahati Christian Senior School Surabaya, Indonesia and Nahar International School, Mumbai. The students and educators from three schools participated in the session. The collaborative session was based on the TOK key concept “Culture” and the core theme “Knowledge and the Knower''.The session was initiated by the TOK educators and Diploma Coordinators, followed by an introductory session by the students from each school. The introduction included information about the school, culture, and customs of their community.  After the brief introduction and guidelines about the session, students were sent to the breakout rooms for discussion on different Knowledge questions and critical situations assigned to them. After the discussion for one hour, students from each group presented their perspectives on the topics assigned. The presentation by the students gave a glimpse of different communities of knowers and how each culture accepts and integrates new knowledge in their community differently. Overall, the session was highly informative and interactive which gave students a chance to share their viewpoints and perspectives with the knowers from different communities.The session ended with a vote of thanks from each school and a note of appreciation from the participants and audience. August 30, 2021 New Chandigarh Branch Announced We are all set to add another thrilling chapter to the distinguished three-decades long history of the Strawberry Fields Schools, under the aegis of the Durga Das Foundation.Construction is underway for Strawberry Fields High School, New Chandigarh, to carry forward the legacy of excellence in all spheres of education.The School is likely to commence classes for pre-school in September, 2024.

August 26, 2021 Intra House Slogan Making Competition Independence Day celebrations at school often mean a beautifully decorated campus in ribbons and balloons of the national flag’s colours, students proudly singing the anthem and looking forward to present some related dance and song performances. But this year too, Covid-19 has shut schools indefinitely and added a twist to the 75th Independence Day celebrations. The fervour remained, but most educational institutions opted for a virtual route.At Strawberry Fields High School too, for instance, patriotism found a digital expression when an Intra House Slogan Making Competition was organized for the students of Class V and VI on Friday, 20th August, 2021. Channelizing their creativity through this event, the students made captivating slogans about what independence meant to them. They also had to use the tricolours of the Indian flag to design a motif, texture or a collage that would accompany the slogan.The entries were judged on the following parameters:1) Creativity2) Presentation3) Originality4) Relevance to the theme5) Artistic compositionThe competition concluded successfully with the enthusiastic participation of the students, who came up with interesting slogans and creative use of saffron, white, green and blue colours to express their love for the nation. The Umeed Club, led by Club Secretary Paavna Pannu (12B) and Joint Secretary Vaanya Gilhotra (11A), recently conducted a COVID-19 Vaccine Awareness Webinar with Dr. Vikram Bedi, leading pediatrician and neonatologist. Dr Bedi has been a champion for the cause of vaccination and has undertaken extensive research in this field. Through his insights, he helped debunk common myths and provide credible information regarding the importance of vaccination. Attended by students of the high school, the webinar proved to be highly informative.

Considering the wide-scale hesitancy that surrounds the process of vaccination in the country and the rampant spread of misinformation, we hope that through this informative session all those who attended will take this message forward, encourage those around them to get vaccinated, and be a voice of reason in a sea of misinformation.

August 23, 2021 Shark Tank What’s the secret to the perfect Shark Tank pitch? At Strawberry Fields High School, we decided to find out by evaluating the pitches of all 33 aspiring entrepreneurs in the Shark Tank virtual event organised by IBDP students on Friday, 13 August 2021. The concept of the event involved entrepreneurs who were students from grade 9 – 12, pitch innovative products viaPowerPoint presentation to the judges. Each pitch told a story about the innovative product, the need for it, how it can be made. The event started off with an inspiring keynote addressed by Mr. Gaurav Gupta (Co-Founder of Navia Life Care). Mr. Gupta is an MBA from Indian School of Business, and an engineer from NSIT Delhi, he specializes in Strategy, Business Development and Marketing. Prior to Navia, Mr. Gupta has successfully built two sustainable businesses, one being an enterprise solution for large enterprises and the other being a consumer product. He has also worked in management consulting where he advised pharmaceutical companies and hospital systems on strategy and operations management. Heshared his insights about his exploratory and, often tumultuous, journey in business.He shared the importance of pivoting swiftly towards new avenues when the primary business idea or model is under external threat.A total of 13 teams participated in the event who were judged by were Mr. Ankush Arora andMr. Sushain Trehan. Mr. Ankush Arorais the Founder and Creator of Uncle Jack’s India, a chain of American fast-food restaurants with 12+ outlets pan-India, award-winning food, and glowing reviews. His business expansion model has gained immense traction in just six years.Mr. Sushain Trehan is a Principal at Madison India Capital, a leading $600 million Private Equity firm specializing in making equity investments in the business services, consumer, financial services, healthcare and technology industries. Sushain evaluates and monitors investments worth $10 million to $35 million in various sectors including financial services, consumer, business services and technology.Prior to joining Madison India, Sushain worked in the Mergers & Acquisitions group at Credit Suisse, India.  Sushain received his MBA from the Indian School of Business. He also received his B.Tech in Chemical Engineering and M. Tech in Process Engineering & Design from India Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi.During the event, judges looked for specific cues from the young entrepreneurs to learnabout financial viability of their innovative idea and the target market. The third prize was bagged by Pristine which consisted of Mannat Kaur, Mrinalini Srivastava, Angad Singh Bains of IBDP and Kudrat Khosla from ISC Grade 11. Their idea was ‘Cosmic C’ which is a solar powered portable charger and multipurpose device with Bluetooth and speakers. It is extremely sustainable, environment friendly and non-harmful. It sticks to any window surface. Their idea was environment friendly, and the facts and figures presented in their presentation were realistic that impressed the judges.The second position wasattained by Vitthal Tewari of class 10 D who proposed UrDrobe, a mobile application for both iOS and Android that aims to address the issue of disorganized wardrobes. Using Artificial Intelligence andMachine Learning algorithms, users will be able to scan their pre-existing outfits and the app will organize them based on multiple factors. The app will also provide personalized suggestions along with a virtual avatar to try on clothes from your own closet and from leading brands in the app itself.The first position was bagged by FarmHub with students of Grade 12namely, Angad Singh Suryavanshi, Nihaal Singh Sandhu,and Bilawal Singh Deu who created an app that will help farmers to rent farm equipment at cheaper price. Their business plan and execution plan with a great presentation grabbed them the first place.Every team was coached on the strengths and areas of development of their ideas. The event informed participants about the operational and strategic nuances that must be adhered to when running a business. It displayed the reality of entrepreneurship and taught the audience that if a successful idea is profitable for both the innovator and the investor. Read More
August 17, 2021 GROUP 4 PROJECT PRESENTATION Students of IB DP Year 2 presented their insights on the Group 4 Project to parents and students of the high school. The Group 4 project is a collaborative interdisciplinary task where students from different Group 4 subjects participate and work on a chosen scientific topic. The theme of the project was Covid-19, where different groups worked on various research questions. The findings highlighted the correlation of Vitamin-D with Covid-19; the impact of Covid-19 on the disposal and management of biomedical waste and the role of AI (artificial intelligence) and ARV’s (antiretrovirals) in combating the pandemic. Most of the students attended the session offline, while few of them viewed it online. The project bolstered the students to develop collaborative and social skills while working together to solve common problems. Read More
